Mass Timber Design Competition 2022

We worked with the Wiyot Tribe’s Dishgamu Humboldt Community Land Trust to prepare concept designs, carbon analysis, and cost estimates for application to the Softwood Lumber Board’s 2022 Mass Timber Design Competition. The proposed 6-story, mixed-use multifamily project in Downtown Eureka, CA was conceived as a pilot project to introduce Mass Timber construction to Humboldt County and pave the way for a renewed forest products industry in this historic timber region. The use of mass timber allows for the elimination of a traditional concrete podium level while providing flexibility for unit layouts to change in response to resident needs over time. Lessons learned from this case study will be applied to future projects in the development pipeline.
